Big Family Tips Laundry Schedule

Having a big family is a wonderful blessing, my heart is full but so are my laundry baskets.  Of all my tasks, Laundry is my biggest challenge.  I have learned, using a laundry schedule and sticking to it keeps me from falling behind. I would love to be even more organized with this, but I really don’t have a laundry room.

We have a washer and dryer in the dining room (I don’t know what they were thinking when they built this house.) I contemplated going to the laundry mat and doing it all at once, but the thought of hauling 12-13 loads in and out every week did not sound appealing.  I decided to create a schedule and it has been working so far.

Here is what my laundry schedule for big families looks like:

HELPFUL LAUNDRY TIPS

My husband bought me a large capacity Washer and Dryer this helps me not split too many loads up. The kids and their laundry grouped in pairs or by room; teenagers, middles, littles, and Mom/Dad. Teenagers get the weekends to do their own laundry. Wednesdays I wash towels again, but that is it because I clean both downstairs bathrooms and I don’t have much energy left after that.

Every other Thursday I do the teenagers bedspreads while I clean their bathroom which is upstairs. I keep two laundry baskets in each room so we can sort as we go. The kids help put their own clothes away that day! If they don’t their rooms will be a complete mess and I’ll end up washing clean clothes.

Tip:  If I forget clothes in the dryer I add a wet/wrung out wash cloth and start the load again.  The wash clothe creates enough moisture to steam the clothes and tells the dryer things still need to be dried.
