I know for some it may be a challenge to start a low carb diet, it is like we are surrounded by carbs. The first thing you might read in another post is to get rid of those carbs in your house! I know your laughing right now and saying, “yeah right” and I would have to agree. If you’re like me, you can’t. Everyone else in the house isn’t on this diet. So the next best thing to do is have your kitchen ready with low carb foods that you can quickly prepare a snack or meal. Here is a list of Low Carb Foods to get you started
FIRST OF ALL, WHAT IS A LOW CARB DIET?
A low-carb diet is one that restricts carbohydrates, such as those found in sugary foods, pasta, and bread. It focuses on high protein, fat and healthy vegetables.
HIGH CARB FOODS TO AVOID
Dairy foods like milk, yogurt, and ice cream.
Whole fruit and fruit juices
Grains including bread, rice, crackers, and cereal
Legumes like Beans and other plant-based proteins
Starchy Vegetables like potatoes and corn
Sugary Sweets & Salt Snacks
When your first starting out, hold off on low carb specialty items in the store.
I would even suggest weaning yourself off coffee that is filled with creamer. Keep in mind diet sodas with the artificial sweeteners tended to create cravings, well at least they did for me so I drink nothing but water, I don’t even drink diet sodas anymore.
LOW CARB VEGETABLES
LOW CARB MEATS
As you can see, just about every meat is allowed on this diet and this isn’t even all on the list. I prefer to stick with beef, chicken and fish. It is easier for me to find on a budget. I like to go to the store first thing in the morning and visit the meat department to grab those cuts of meat that just got marked down.
If your wondering if this is it? It’s not, what about cheese?
LOW CARB CHEESES
This is a good list of cheeses to get you started. They are perfect to get you started not to mention snacking and adding to dinner. Oh I forgot to add, I cook with real butter, it doesn’t take much but adds so much flavor.
